New Old spice man?

The legend Old spice man has made quite a come back through the New Old spice man. That is a really interesting method of grabbing attention. As well-known and well-liked Isalah Mustafa is recently occupied with all sources of movie projects, perhaps this is one way of getting his engagement back. Or this is just another way of getting your attentions back.

It's been while since the last post of Old Old spice guy on the Old spice main Youtube channel, and we all know that this fabulous "your man and I" strategy would not last forever. This internet duel/ challenge [or as what they call "Mano a Mano"] is a brilliant idea, at least for now.

I get the feeling of cheesiness from the new [temporarily] Old spice spokesman Fabio: the long hair, the old fashion lines, the skinny tank with high-cut trousers [what is that??? compare to the fabulous Mustafa]. P&J actually makes heaps of girls yelling for Mustafa to come back [which is ATTENTION]. A great idea to gain back popularity. Using and integrating all types of social media (Youtube, Twitter and Facebook), Old spice is having a great start for their come back.


As though hate the new character, I find myself skimming thru all of his youtube clips to see how he plans to deal with Mustafa's hilarious seriousness. Well done, Old spice!

I would love to see how Old spice will make netizens more engaged in this duel [since what I realise is the views for those recent vids are not so great anymore.]

  1. Yes, a very engaging campaign. And wonderful timing, as our new semester begins. They have such huge success, using social media to revive a very old and tired brand. Everyone's talking about it!

  2. Yes, I was a big fan of the original old spice campaign with Mustafa. I find however that the original idea has lost its "spice", and agree that the newer ads aren't as engaging. While they might have success with the Mano a Mano, which I am also excited for, I would personally like to see them show off the style of innovation which is what got them such huge success with the first Mustafa Old Spice Ad. In my opinion, people are always looking for something new and different, especially if they are going to keep linking it on different social media sites such as facebook. If you have most of your friends linking a certain video clogging up your news feed, you might get tired of the same old idea with a slightly different twist.

  3. Haha, this is gold! Particularly humorous to a new/old guy like myself! Would it make buy Old Spice though? Probably not. I can't even recall seeing on the supermarket shelf?

  5. When I think old Spice, I see it on the shelf in the drug store when I buy meds. Not a fan. Ads however have always been good, but it has sort of lost it's "edge". It would be interesting to see if using SM will actually capture a younger audience and revitalise the brand.

  6. @IvanD: Sure, I agree, I too want to see them showing off more innovation in their campaign.
    @Hubba & Rossouwe: I also thought about that, Old Spice gets ppl to talk about them, tweet about them, fb about them, but will they actually buy Old spice products, I am not buying this for my boyfriend though!
